📖 Great Crested Grebes: A Rare Breeding Success 30/09/26

I thought this was worth sharing: 

Since my car was booked for a service in Aberdeen today, I couldn’t resist making a quick detour on my way home. I stopped by Loirston Loch, a small loch located south of the city, to check in on the local pair of Great Crested Grebes.

On the water, the adult pair were surprisingly located at opposite ends of the loch, each accompanied by two impressive, well-grown juveniles. Great Crested Grebes are quite rare in Aberdeenshire, and it is likely that this is the only successful breeding pair in the entire city and county this season. Witnessing all four striped juveniles thriving and actively feeding alongside their parents was a great sight; let's hope they stay around for the winter.
